Activating Wi-Fi

What is Wi-Fi?

  • Wi-Fi uses radio waves to connect to the internet without wires. Instead of using a mobile network connection like 3G or GPRS, it picks up the internet via Wi-Fi hotspots.
  • These hotspots (also know as routers) can be found in public places like offices, cafés and libraries; they transmit signals your can device pick up. You may already have one at home for accessing a broadband line.
Wi-Fi is also referred to as WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) on some devices.

These are small devices that are always connected to the internet and transmit signals around them which your device can pick up. Routers are used at home as well as public places like schools, offices, cafés and pubs.
