BlackBerry messenger

  • BlackBerry messenger lets you send instant messages in real time!
  • As long as you have a BlackBerry Bolt On, messenger is free
  • Add groups to chat to everyone you want at once. Personalise your profile with a display picture
  • When in camera mode, pressing the target button (the second one on screen) will allow you to locate your BBM contacts in a crowd!

First you will need to set up a BlackBerry ID, don't worry it's easy to do!

  • Press the BlackBerry button, you will be asked to create a display name, which is how you'll be seen by your contacts..

Change your display name and display picture

  1. On the home screen select the BlackBerry Messenger icon
  2. Scroll to Contacts and press the BlackBerry button
  3. Select View My Profile
  4. You can now edit your Display Name
  5. Press the BlackBerry button and select Save
  6. Press the BlackBerry button and scroll to Change Display Picture
  7. Select a picture from the options
  8. The Trackpad (the scroll button in the centre) can be used to focus the image
  9. Press the BlackBerry button and select Crop & Save

Add a contact by scanning a barcode

Use your BlackBerry to scan another, adding them as a messenger contact.

  1. Click the BlackBerry Messenger icon.
  2. Scroll to Contacts and press the BlackBerry button
  3. Click Invite to BBM
  4. Select Scan a PIN barcode
  5. Click Start Scanning
  6. Select Scan a PIN barcode
  7. Click Scan a PIN barcode
  8. Hold your BlackBerry so that the full barcode appears on your screen, until there's a beep
  • You can also add a contact by typing their name, phone number, email or PIN.
  • Contacts don't even need to have a BlackBerry. You can add them as a BBM contact and text message them via your BBM screen.

Create a BBM Group

  • Personalise your BBM groups so you can chat to multiple contacts at the same time.
  • You can also share lists, appointments and pictures.
  • Add up to 30 contacts, including non-BlackBerry users.
  1. Click the BlackBerry Messenger icon
  2. Scroll to Contacts and press the BlackBerry button
  3. Select New Group
  4. Give the group a name, a description and amend the group icon
  5. Contacts will see the description when they receive the invitation to join the group
  6. Selecting No next to Allow Non-Admin Members to Invite Others means only you can send invitations
  7. Confirm your new BBM group by selecting Create Group
