Downloading apps

Applications (or apps for short) are small computer programmes that run on a mobile phone or tablet. You can customise your phone or tablet by downloading apps and making it do pretty much anything you can think of. Here are a few ideas:

• Games - crash round the desert in a dirt bike race or keep the kids quiet with Tetris


• Social media - get special phone friendly versions of websites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter


• Shopping - order from hundreds of supermarkets and retailers


• Maps - stay on the right track and get instant directions


• News, weather and sport updates - you'll never miss a story with alerts on your phone


• Tools - multi-task with calculators, step counters, spirit levels, meter readers and many more

How do I download apps?

You can download Apps on your TouchPad via the HP App Catalog. The HP App Catalog can be accessed in the Downloads tab.

You will need a webOS account to download apps from the HP App Catalog and if you wish to purchase apps, you will need to provide your credit card details.

Updating apps

When there is an update available for one of your apps, you will receive a notification. To install the update, tap the notification and do one of the following:

• To display details about an app and the update: Tap the app name.
• To update the app: Tap the arrow icon to the right of the app name.
• To update all apps: Tap Install Updates.

Manually check for updates to your apps

1. Open Software Manager
2. Tap Apps to manage downloaded apps that appear in the Launcher, or tap Other to manage background apps and services that do not appear in the Launcher.
   
   • If updates are available for any of your downloaded apps or services, an [X] Updates Available button appears at the bottom of the screen with a number. The number indicates the number of items for which updates are available. Tap [X] Updates Available.

• Do one of the following:
  • To display details about an app and the update: tap the app name.
  • To update the app: tap the arrow icon to the right of the app name.
  • To update all apps: tap Install Updates.
• To return to the list of apps: tap My Apps.
