What are apps?

  • Applications (or apps for short) are small computer programmes that run on your device that enhance what it can do. Your phone is operated by Android operating systems which is powered by Google, enabling you to use all Google's service with ease.
  • Customise your phone with the things you love by shopping at Google Play. Whether you want apps for chat, cooking or movie-making, the selection is endless and new ones are added all the time.
  • To download Android apps you'll need a Gmail account.
  • Shop instantly on your smartphone or browse on your personal computer then have purchases sent to your device, just make sure you're signed in with the same account.

How much are they?

  • Android apps range from free to around £30 and once downloaded they're permanently stored on your phone.
  • Remember: it's always a good idea to back up all precious things like apps on a personal computer.

Searching for apps

Shop at Google Play for a huge choice of apps.
  • On the home screen select Market
  • The terms and conditions will appear, select Accept
  • You'll then be taken to Google Play
  • Select Browse featured apps for a list of the apps
  • Select Browse apps by categories
  • Select Apps or Games
  • Then choose a category
  • Filter the results in each category by Top paid, Top free or Just in
  • Alternatively search for an app by entering the name in the search box on the Google Play homescreen
  • Select an app to read its description and any available reviews
  • Select Install for free apps or Buy for paid apps
  • Select ok to agree to the conditions
  • If you chose a paid app, you'll be taken to the Google Checkout
  • The app will start downloading and will then be saved on your phone.

Deleting apps

  • On the home screen select Market
  • Select My apps
  • Select the app you want to delete
  • Select Uninstall
  • Then confirm by pressing Ok
  • Select a reason for removing the app
  • Then confirm by pressing Ok
