Will my phone work abroad?
Because different countries use different frequencies to transmit calls, not all UK phones will work when you take them abroad.
The more frequency bands a phone can use, the more countries it can work in. You can find out which bands your phone can use by looking in your user manual.
The table below gives a rough guide to which type of phones will work where - if you're not sure, please check with your network before you go abroad. They will also be able to advise you on call charges.
Dual-band | Tri-band | Quad-band
UK and Europe | | | |
USA and Canada | | | |
Central and South America
Africa | | | |
Australasia | | | |
Asia* | | | |
*Only quad-band phones will work in some areas of Japan and Hong Kong

I'm buying on your website - where can I find out if a phone works abroad?
Use our Phone finder to select a phone you like. Once you've got to the phone's main info page, select the Features tab at the bottom and open the General box. You'll see an option for Works in USA that will either be ticked or crossed - if there's a tick the phone can access tri-band frequencies. If there's a cross, the phone can only access dual-band frequencies.
