Which phones can connect to the internet?

  • Most phones we sell allow access to the internet. If you're not sure, use our phone finder to find a phone you like the look of, and check the features section to see if it has a built in internet browser.
  • Smartphones are the fastest and easiest way to use the internet on your phone. They have a built in processor which allows them to process web pages faster. They look the same as they would on a computer, rather than basic 'mobile phone friendly' pages. Find out more about smartphones.

How do phones connect to the internet?

There are lots of different ways to connect to the internet on your phone. Most phones can connect to several types of mobile internet network - they'll automatically connect to the fastest one available so you get the best download speeds.

Here are the most common connections available:

WAP

WAP-enabled phones download 'phone-friendly' versions of web pages. Because the pages are simpler, they display faster

GPRS

GPRS phones are often referred to as 2G or 2.5G (second generation) because they're faster than older WAP handsets

3G

3G (third generation) phones offer the fastest download speeds available

Smartphones

Smartphones access the internet on the 3G network, but their built-in processor helps to prcess web pages faster. Find out more on our smartphone page

How do you remove internet access from your phone?

If you don't want any internet access on your phone, you'll need to contact your network. They'll be able to remove this for you.
